Our August meetup will be hosted at Rubicon Project on August 5th @ 8pm-10pm. This time around we're going to try three presentations, each around 15 minutes in length. Hopefully this will be the best mix of depth of content without putting anyone to sleep and enough topics to keep things interesting.

Presentations:

1) Ari Lerner - Auto-Scaling cloud-computing on amazon EC2 + S3
2) Nick Merwin - Rolling with Red5 (open source Flash server)
3) Erik Osterman - Faster Response Times By Using the Starling Queue Server

The meeting was great, all the presentations were very informative and interesting, good choice of topics. The new format definitely work, let's keep it. The Rubicon office was pretty fancy and served good food ;-) Thanks to Will for arranging this event, it was very well organized, like usual.

  • 85 attendees
    •  Great people, good food and plenty of drinks, good times.
    •  It was a lot of fun my first time out. There were lots of people to meet and great!
    •  Good topics and length of presentations.
    •  Good location, included food and beer. Well presented, organized and thought out. Did not run on and on. Got to the point and moved to the next subject. Well organized.

The Rubicon building was ridiculously nice, as was the catering and free beer. Same goes for the presentations (disclaimer: i was one of 'em). Doing quick 15 minute talks seems like the way to go, it definitely helps keep people's attention. A little more organization post-presentations would be nice, like designated spots for different tech topics... Anyway, keep up the good work!
    •  Great venue and great food/drink
    •  Much better format than last time.
    •  Had a great time. Lots of interesting people and conversation.
    •  This is a GREAT user group meeting... Well-paced and the speakers bring a lot to the table. And of course I liked running into friends I hardly ever see... now I know where they've been hanging out!!!
    •  Some really great topics this time and the venue was really great
    •  All the presenters did really well. They demonstrated novel ways of utilizing latest technologies, which is very helpful for me to understand what other people are doing.
    •  good format. i'd say keep it. Got to keep the topics as technical as possible. Maybe throw out 'categories' at the end of the meeting for people to think about presentations for the next one. If finding presenters is difficult, maybe the SDForum SIG list might be helpful: http://www.sdforu... Business Intelligence Emerging Technology Mobile Internet Open Source Search Security Semantic Web SW Architecture & Modeling Start-up SIG Venture Finance Virtual Worlds Web Services
    •  Presentation length and depth was pretty much perfect.
    •  I liked the starling session
    •  Very cool location and the topics and people were interesting.
