Join Alfresco + Liferay: Content Management and Portal Meetup

You'll get invited to our Meetups as soon as they're scheduled!

MeetUp Agenda

We're working on the agenda and session topics and would like to invite users of Alfresco and/or Liferay to suggest ideas. Please sign up to the meetup group and send an email to the mailing list: "web {dash} 44 {at} meetup {dot} com"

The current plan is to have 3 or 4 tracks on broad topics such as: Integration, Scalability, Roadmap, and Case Studies. If we get a large number of attendees, we'll run the tracks in parallel, otherwise, we'll revise the schedule and tracks to better fit the number of attendees. It will benefit us all to get as large a group as possible, so please spread the word and invite colleagues and friends to RSVP.

Session Announcements:

Alfresco Web Scripts and Portlets - Luis Sala & David Caruana
Using Alfresco's 2.1 Web Scripts to build AJAX and REST-enabled portlets, mashups and more!

Everyone's Talking About It, So Why Can't We? - Brian Chan - Liferay
Ruby, that is. Brian Chan demo'ed Liferay running Ruby and PHP portlets at JAX India. Alfresco has been doing WebScripts and some other stuff to integrate to PHP solutions. There's plenty of ground to explore here. Liferay acts as the Java based framework (with all the inherent benefits of the Java Platform) but can "host" web apps developed in PHP or Ruby or Groovy. Alfresco will demo and discuss it's approach to dynamic languages.
Enomaly Reuven Cohen Globally Scalable CDN with Alfresco - Reuven Cohen - Enomaly
Earlier this week, I received confirmation that Reuven Cohen (or possibly on of his cohorts at enomaly) will be leading a discussion on creating a global Content Delivery Network (CDN) with Alfresco. Reuven and his team have been very active in the Xen virtualization and Amazon EC2 space (also based on Xen). This promises to be a very interesting discussion that deals with massive scalability and leveraging virtualization to achieve such scalability in a cost-effective fashion.

A solution of SSO plus LDAP for Alfresco compliant standalone applications and Alfresco Portlet in Liferay - CIGNEX
When integrating Liferay with Alfresco plus LDAP, an authentication service (such as CAS SSO) becomes necessary both at application level and at portals? portlet level. We provide a solution of SSO plus LDAP for Alfresco-compliant standalone applications and Alfresco-compliant portlets in Liferay. Three real examples (SSO CAS against alfresco standalone application and LDAP ADS, SSO against alfresco compliant standalone application ? Hoike CampusDocs ? and LDAP ADS, and SSO against Alfresco Portlet and LDAP ADS in Liferay) are also provided for discussion.

Alfresco and Liferay Integration for Communities and Collaboration - Mike Vertal - Rivet Logic
Will most likely present on the integration of Liferay and Alfresco to enable content-rich communities and collaboration with case studies of existing and ongoing implementations

Sun Microsystems

ICEfaces Kevan Rich Internet Portlets: ICEfaces and Liferay

Tools and frameworks for supporting RIA (rich internet application) development have exploded over the past couple of years. But what about support for Web 2.0 features in portlets? This presentation looks at ICEsoft's road to integrating ICEfaces with portal implementations, specifically our successful working relationship with Liferay. The presentation will discuss a brief history of ICEfaces, the values it can provide to developers, some of the technical challenges faced with portal integration, and what we're looking at planning in the near future for an even richer portal experience.

Russ Danner - Christian Science Monitor

Demonstrate some of the things we have been working on at the CS Monitor including XFORMS based story editor, and how they built their website based on Liferay and consume content from Alfresco.

Special Demo Session:
Alfresco UI customization : a case study
There are cases when a client needs to have a customized user interface for Alfresco repository. Cignex recently completed one such effort for a client. We will discuss the business needs, approach, technology, best practices and challenges associated with such an effort. This will be followed by a brief demo of the product.
