Join us to learn the fundamentals of the Joomla content management system (CMS) (http://www.joomla.o rg/). The Joomla CMS is designed to let non-technical users create extensive, professional web sites. We will examine it from both a pure WYSIWYG content management / out of box configuration standpoint, as well as what is needed for some basic development on top of the platform and how the platform can be extended with a wide range of add-ons. All we ask is that you bring an inquisitive mind. We look forward to seeing everyone!

We are pleased to announce that Chris Wildgoose from Knowledge Stream will be presenting about the Semantic Web. Here is a synopsis of the lecture that Chris will be leading. "The web has proliferated at an unprecedented rate since its founding in the early 90?s. Since that period, the web has progressed from a simple network of servers housing static content into a global network that supports highly complex e-commerce interactions. Today the buzzward is web 2.0, but the opportunity for the future, as articulated by Tim Burners-Lee himself, lies in the so-called ?Semantic Web?. Let?s use this discussion forum to first understand what the world of the ?Semantic Web? will look like. Next, lets identify and understand the key technologies that will support this new world. Technologies such as RDF, OWL, SPARQL and a more semantic RSS will become important. Lets talk at a high-level what these technologies can accomplish , with an eye toward its applicability to solving real world problems. Finally lets spend some time identifying some actual problems that help in this."

Get ready to share! Is there a software application or gadget that has been really been outstanding that you would like to chat about? Perhaps Apple?s iTV, iPhone, HDTV, the Wii or BlueRay? Pick a favorite(s) and be ready to discuss and share with the group. For the later half of this meetup the group will be able to discuss hot issues in the world of technology. Handouts with these items and related articles will be provided to facilitate our discussion. I promise that we will keep our eyes on digg.com, news.com and Slashdot.org to find some great gems. Everyone is encouraged to bring an item of their own that they find newsworthy.

Hey Guys and Gals, I hope that everyone is having a great summer. I really enjoyed our last meetup where we engaged in very lively discussion around a range of topics. I am excited to continue that spirit at our BBQ. Here are the topics that I have gathered for our next meetup: 1. Hamachi – Is this the ultimate in free, easy to use VPN technology? Stay on your own personal network anywhere in the world! 2. RSS – Is anyone really leveraging RSS? Does anyone have any recommended feeds on interesting topics? 3. Time shifting – Not a purely technical topic, but very interesting nonetheless. How can we get more time from our days? 4. News – The latest and greatest happenings in the tech world. I look forward to everyone’s comments and hope that people can make it out for this event. It will be great to continue meeting new people. Best wishes, John Our last meeting at "Other Side Cafe" on Newbury went well, so if it ok with everyone it would be great to meet there again.
